Celebrity couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have this week shared large donations with two hunger relief charities. They're encouraging others to donate, too, if you are financially able.

The couple have starred in various Hollywood movies, with Ryan rising to fame in movies like Deadpool and The Proposal, and Blake known for her performances in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and Gossip Girl.

Now parents to three children, Ryan and Blake are doing their bit to help those in need during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Yesterday, they donated a generous sum of money to organisations who are providing hunger relief for some of the most vulnerable and at risk residents of the USA and Canada.

They donated a huge $1 million to two separate organisations, Feed America, an organisation that operates a host of foodbanks across America, and Food Banks, a similar organisation run in Ryan's birthplace, Canada.

"I think we can all agree, Covid-19 is an a–hole," Reynolds shared with Twitter followers. "If you can help, visit, http://FeedingAmerica.org and/or http://FoodBanksCanada.ca."

"Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low income families. Blake & I are donating $1 million to be split between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. If you can give, these orgs need our help."

If you're keen to donate to a food bank in the UK, The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of foodbanks and provides emergency food and support to those in poverty and in need. You can donate money or tinned food; whatever you can afford to spare.

Speaking about the donation to Variety magazine, Dan Nisbet, vice president of Major Gifts at Feeding America, said: "We are so grateful for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s extremely generous donation, and for all of the donations we’ve been receiving."

He continued: "The Feeding America network of 200 food banks is working tirelessly to aid and provide meal assistance to our most vulnerable neighbours — children, the elderly, families struggling with food insecurity and individuals facing job disruptions — throughout our nation during this unprecedented time. Generosity like theirs will make all the difference."

In his Tweet, Reynolds also asked his followers to: "Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection."

They're not the only celebrities who have been showing their support on social media, with Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Natalie Portman urging followers and fans to donate to the charity in recent weeks.

Ben Affleck shared to his Twitter followers: "During this time, I’m thinking about our most vulnerable – children losing access to meals they rely on, friends and family who are facing job disruptions, the elderly, and low-income families. Join me in supporting @FeedingAmerica."

If you're feeling a little down about the overwhelming amount of scary news at current, remember, throughout this unprecedented time, there are lots of good deeds happening. Plus, there are things you can do to help others, too, like letting neighbours know you're there if they need you (this kindness campaign slip may help).
