  • David Beckham has spoken about the important role running has played during the coronavirus lockdown.

  • The ex-footballer is part of Adidas' new Ultraboost 21 campaign.

David Beckham often takes to Instagram to share his gym workouts with his followers, but like many, he has found running to be beneficial to his physical and mental health during the coronavirus pandemic.

Beckham appears in a video about 'runner's high' as part of Adidas' new Ultraboost 21 campaign, where he says the endorphins released when running makes 'running in the rain feel like running on the beach'.

The ex-footballer went on to say: 'Versatility in my workouts is so important. Running is something that I’ve started to do more of in recent months and I am really enjoying it. In times like these, it’s more important than ever to make sure that we are looking after ourselves and I have found running to be a way of keeping my mind and body strong.'

When speaking about the new shoe, he said 'ULTRABOOST 21 looks and feels and great, meaning that I'm more motivated than ever to get out and exercise.'

Like Beckham, more people than ever before have taken their workouts outdoors over the past year. A recent study by RunRepeat surveyed 4,538 active adults from 122 countries and found that, unsurprisingly, exercising outdoors is the most popular fitness trend of 2021, with 59.1% of active adults listing outdoor activities like running and hiking as the best way to achieve their fitness goals in 2021.
