  • A runner was trapped underneath a van in a ‘horrendous’ crash in Cornwall.

  • The crash happened at 6.45 pm on May 12, on the Carnkie to Penmarth Road, near Stithians.

According to local newspaper Cornwall Live, a car driver reportedly lost control, causing a van to crash into a group of runners.

One of the runners was trapped under the van during the incident and had to be rescued by fire crews. She was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital. A relative said the woman was lucky to still be alive.

Locals have previously deemed the section of road 'dangerous'.

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said, ‘Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident in the vicinity.

‘The crew discovered a two-vehicle road-traffic collision with one person trapped. The casualty was released from underneath one of the vehicles by fire service personnel.’
