Rumours swirl around 'Watford hospital funding announcement today'
A big announcement that could see Watford General Hospital get long-awaited funding is rumoured to be on the cards.
West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been hoping to build a new hospital at the current site in Watford, with plans finalised last summer, but there are fears the rebuild is “stalling”.
It is now rumoured that a major breakthrough could be coming today (March 30).

On Monday (March 27), Lawrence Dunhill from the Health Service Journal tweeted: “Expecting a Dept of Health announcement on the '40 new hospitals' programme this week.”

The Conservative Party’s manifesto commitment to build 40 new hospitals by 2030 includes redevelopment in Watford.
Watford General Hospital is rumoured to be among the planned announcements, but this has not been confirmed.

However, yesterday Mr Dunhill added: “Been expecting big Government announcement on 'new hospitals programme' to come tomorrow [March 3].
“Lots of doubt/uncertainty among hopeful/expectant trusts about whether it's coming though, one person hearing announcement may have been shelved.”
The Government has consistently denied there is any delay to the programme.
