The Palace has released new portraits of the royals ahead of Prince Charles' 70th birthday. The images show the Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; the Duke and Duchess of Sussex; and Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis posing on a bench in the gardens of Clarence House. The outdoor photoshoot resulted in a classic family photo and a sweet candid shot of the royals mid-laughter.

The lovely tableau is reminiscent of a photo call Charles did with the late Princess Diana and a young Prince William in 1983. At the time, they were photographed at Kensington Palace instead of Clarence House.

The former couple and baby William posed for a similar photo the following year, also at Kensington Palace. Princess Di, clad in all pink, was months away from giving birth to Prince Harry.

Years before posing with Diana and William at Kensington Palace, the Prince of Wales also did a bench photoshoot at Balmoral Castle in 1952. As a child he and sister Princess Anne posed with their mother, the Queen, in the garden of their Scottish residence.

For this year's portraits, the Prince of Wales chose royal photographer Chris Jackson to do the honors of capturing his family altogether.

"I was delighted to have been asked to take these official portraits of The Prince of Wales surrounded by his family to celebrate the important milestone of his 70th Birthday," Jackson said of the special opportunity. "It was particularly special to capture such an informal and relaxed family portrait over a fun afternoon!"
