The royal family have taken to social media to wish Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, a happy birthday. The former actress turns 40 today.

The family shared a series of pictures of Meghan and Harry, alongside one of Meghan and the Queen smiling together, on the official royal family Twitter account.

The caption read: "Wishing the Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday today!"

Rather than throwing a lavish party, it's believed that Meghan will be celebrating her milestone birthday in a low-key way today. According to reports, she is planning to spend her big day "privately" with her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children, Archie Harrison and Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, at their home in Montecito, California.

Meghan has kept a low profile since the birth of her daughter in June. The couple confirmed their plans to take a break from work via a statement on their website, Archewell.

"While the duke and duchess are on parental leave, Archewell will continue to do important work and publish stories on the site," read a note at the end of Lili's birth announcement. "We look forward to seeing you!"

They have still kept up their charitable endeavours, donating nappies to mothers in need.

It was revealed via Harvest Home's Instagram account last month that Harry and Meghan had donated a generous amount of Pampers baby nappies to the charity as part of the company's Million Acts of Love Campaign. The organisation shared a photo of an impressive amount of nappy packages, alongside a caption thanking the Sussexes for their donation. Harvest Home is a charity that works to transform the lives of homeless pregnant women in and around Los Angeles, helping provide for them and their children.

"Pallets and pallets of diapers... we are so grateful!" Harvest Home's message began. "These diapers recently arrived at our new Pico-Robertson Home and we could not be more thankful to the Archewell Foundation, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and @proctergamble and @pampersus for the incredible donation through their Million Acts of Love Campaign. Thank you helping us ensure that our moms and babies have all they need in our homes!"

It was also confirmed last month that Meghan is executive producing a new Netflix children's TV series, Pearl. The animated show is set to follow the adventures of a 12-year-old-girl who "is inspired by a variety of influential women from history," according to an official announcement from the streaming giant.
