An official Platinum Jubilee cookbook has been announced to celebrate 70 years of the Queen’s historic reign.
The cookbook will feature 70 recipes from British embassies and high commissions from across the world and will be available to buy from Thursday 28 April this week, (although you can pre-order it now).
It will feature British recipes and those inspired by local influences from around the various embassies, as well as others which are a fusion of the two.
Included in the book is a mince pie recipe from “C”, the head of MI6, a recipe for cardamon lamb from the high commission in New Delhi and a whisky bread and butter pudding from the Washington D.C. embassy.
Many of the recipes included have actually been served during royal visits to various nations and included in the book are a selection of anecdotes from diplomatic dinners over the years.
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have written a foreword for the Platinum Jubilee cookbook and they shared a photo of the glossy purple cover on their official Clarence House Instagram account.
In a caption, they said that, “as we come together as a nation, in the Realms, and across the Commonwealth to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, food will no doubt play a central part in our public and private celebrations.”
They added that they hoped the book will provide readers with “both pleasure and inspiration, and that food continues to bring you together with family, friends, neighbours and your community”.
The royal couple also shared a sneak preview of one of the recipes for, “Seswaa and English Mustard ‘Sausage’ Rolls” (actually made with slow-cooked beef) from the British High Commission Gaborone, along with a photograph of the delicious-looking pastries.
The book is written by Ameer Kotecha (who is also involved with the official Platinum Pudding competition) and all author royalties from the sale of the book will be donated to the charities of The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund.
The official description of the cookbook bills it as, “a mixture of recipes, food history, anecdote and stunning photography,” adding that “it is also a celebration of Britishness that makes for a unique memento for the Platinum Jubilee, delving into an underexplored part of Her Majesty The Queen's reign.”
The Platinum Jubilee Cookbook is out on 28 April 2022 and is available to pre-order from a range of retailers now.
