It's taken almost twenty years, but, former Brazil and Real Madrid striker, Ronaldo has finally apologised for his "horrible" haircut at the 2002 World Cup.
You may remember that Ronaldo made the decision to shave almost all of his head late into the 2002 tournament and just ahead of his nation’s semi-final triumph over Turkey.
But now, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Ronaldo has said that the haircut was “horrible” and that he apologises “to all mothers who saw their kids make the same haircut.”
In the same interview, Ronaldo also explained why he decided to shave off all his hair apart from a small section at the front of his head, and in the process become the first and last footballer to adopt the 180-degree protractor cut.
Ronaldo claims that having sustained a leg injury prior to the last four clash, he shaved his head in a provocative way to avoid having to talk to the media.
“I saw my teammates and asked, ‘Do you like it?’ They said, ‘No, it’s horrible! Cut this off!’ But the journalists saw my haircut and forgot about the injury.”
So, in conclusion, it was all the media's fault. Another thing to add to the list.
