2020 was difficult for CrossFit. 2021, on the other hand, is poised to be far better. Not least because Zack George, the UK's Fittest Man — by CrossFit standards, that is — is beginning to shift gears once more to cement his position as one of the world's most formidable CrossFit athletes.

Add to this the power vacuum that the departure of five-time CrossFit Games champ Mat Fraser has created and, suddenly, the '21 season for 'The Sport of Fitness' is set to be a memorable one, likely with a winner's podium of hybrid athletes that we've never seen before.

In the new documentary series 'Road to Redemption', 30-year-old Zack George takes you on his journey through the 2021 CrossFit Open, where seasoned veterans and everyday athletes alike compete for places on the global leaderboard, sharing behind-the-scenes footage of the sacrifices, sweat and sheer strength that's required to earn an invite to the CrossFit Games. With the first episode already live, it's a refreshing take on what it takes to get to the top.

The most direct path to take the Games, which secured George's golden ticket to Madison in 2020, was to become a national champion. Despite this, the pandemic meant that the typical CrossFit Games in Madison couldn't take place and reductions were made, leaving just five available athlete spots in each division for a stripped-back final in Aromas, California. This year, as the series title suggests, George plans to be on that competition floor — restrictions or not.

"Last year, I qualified for the CrossFit Games and it's been a seven-year goal that I wanted to tick off and I finally achieved that goal, then the pandemic hit and my spot got taken away," says George in the video. "It didn't stop me from driving towards my goal and sticking with it."

"It was a blow in 2020 to not be able to attend The CrossFit Games, but it just helped make me more determined than ever to put in the tough work to make it happen this year. I’m excited to be able to share the journey with you all.”
