“I’m going to get in trouble,” whispered Cara Delevingne to Nick Jonas. The two were huddled in a dimly-lit library, balling their fists against a study table and quietly pounding out “We Will Rock You” on the polished oak. But this wasn’t a Breakfast Club remake or even an SNL skit: it was the beginning of Rihanna’s latest Fenty x Puma fashion show.

Held at the Bibliothèque Nationale, the 9 pm event was surprisingly calm—probably because the library itself cast an authoritative aura on everyone from Future to Salma Hayek, who jokingly asked for a late pass when she arrived a few seconds before showtime. “This is like school, right?” she laughed. “A teacher is going to yell at me for talking.”

The collection itself was part Harry Potter and part old-school Tommy Hilfiger, hitting a sexed-up, slightly jaded sweet spot between studious preppy and seen-everything party girl. The skirts were short. The backpacks were plaid and shaped like teddy bears. The parkas were Puff Daddy throwbacks. And the shoes—some candy pink moonwalk sneakers, some pumpkin suede thigh high boots—will be sold out the second they hit stores. (“Influencers” may be an iffy investment, after all, but Rihanna has proven herself to be solid gold.)

“That was the cutest,” said editor and designer Tina Craig (code name: The Bag Snob) after Joan Smalls and both Stellas (Lucia and Maxwell) stormed the library-carrols-turned-catwalk. “You can see [Rihanna] wearing all of it, but we could, too. It’s smart.”

Also smart: heading to bed early enough to make Chanel’s 10 am show tomorrow morning. “I wouldn’t miss it,” said longtime Chanel muse Delevingne. “I won’t be in it, this time, but I’ll be watching.”
