Rihanna is officially a National Hero, with the artist and businesswoman's new honour tying in with Barbados' new status as a republic, which sees Queen Elizabeth II formally removed as head of state and governor-general, Dame Sandra Mason, sworn in as President.

For the historic Barbados Republic Ceremony, held in Bridgetown, Rihanna wore a burnt orange Resort 2022 halterneck dress from Bottega Veneta dress coupled with a pair of brown stiletto heels. RiRi then finished the look with minimal makeup and intricate braids.

At the event, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley cited Rihanna's contribution to her native country, including a reference to one of the singer's hit songs.

"On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we, therefore, present to you the designee for National Hero of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty," said Mottley.

"May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honour to your nation by your words, by your actions and to do credit wherever you shall go."

“This is a day that I’ll never, ever forget,” Rihanna told the crowd, in a video shared on Visit Barbados' Instagram account. “It’s also a day that I never saw coming. Barbadians are proud people, you know? We are probably the proudest people I know. And no matter where I go in the world, I take that pride with me. No matter where we go, the world is gonna know that we Bajan to the bone.”

Congratulations, Rihanna!
