Summer is the perfect time to whip out last year's holiday wardrobe; beautify your ankles in a pair of Calvin Klein intense power rubber sliders, show off your neckline in an off-the-shoulder Opening Ceremony cotton-poplin top, and dig deep into your handbag drawers to find your favourite pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers .

Of course, such blissful ideas of having a well-preserved summer wardrobe unfortunately never seem to match reality, when you realise those sandals you wore practically every day last August have dust-coated scuffed heels, that beloved white top has since turned a murky grey hue, and your beloved shades are covered in tiny little scratches.

I don't know about you, but I don't think I've ever been able to keep a pair of sunglasses for longer than a summer, such is my habit of stuffing them in my handbag in a rush and dropping them in the sand on holiday.

Investing in a designer pair of sunglasses is merely but a dream.

Until now, that is.

Here's how to get your sunglasses looking brand new:

Step 1: Using a microfibre cloth, gently wipe your sunglasses to get rid of any dust or dirt that may be cover the surface.

Step 2: Squeeze a small amount of non-gel, non-whitening, non-abrasive toothpaste onto the tip of your finger.

Step 3: Spread the paste over the entire lens in a circular motion with your fingers for approximately five minutes.

Step 4: Rinse the sunglasses in lukewarm water, rinsing off any toothpaste from the lens and rim.

Step 5: Dry the lenses by dabbing a cotton ball along the lens and around the rim. Repeat steps 1-3 if the scratch has not improved.

Mind blown.
