Anyone who’s ever suffered from acne will remember countless nights spent uncomfortably sleeping on their backs, so as not to smudge spot cream. They'll also recall times they’ve woken up in the morning with flaky bits of Differin gel falling into the wash basin and evenings spent moisturising lips/eyelids/forearms to soothe chapped skin as a result of acne-drug side-effects.

However, there’s a new, non-invasive acne treatment stepping onto the UK beauty scene, promising to cure whiteheads in just a few hours. And, better yet, it can do it while you sleep.

Enter Mighty Patch hydrocolloid acne absorbing spot dot, courtesy of US brand Hero Cosmetics.

What is Mighty Patch?

Described as ‘natural, cruelty-free, vegan-friendly’ and with a 74 per cent five-star rating on US Amazon, the Korean-made Mighty Patch is a circular gel sticker which uses the fluid-absorbing agent hydrocolloid to soak up pus and fluids from spots.

It also claims to reduce blemish size, speeds up the healing process, prevents bacteria from spreading to other areas, and stops you picking away at the skin's uneven surface (come on, we're all guilty).

The patches - transparent stickers approximately 12mm in size - are said to ‘adhere on all skin types', 'easy to peel off', and are deemed ‘100% safe’ for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

How do you use it?

1. Locate the spot
Amazon’s description of Mighty Patch explains the product works best on spots ‘with fluid/pus - you know, those angry whiteheads’. Basically, if you see a white tip on the spot, it's ripe for a sticker.
2. Clean the spot
Do your normal cleansing routine before bed (cleanser, toner, moisturiser etc.)
3. Apply Mighty Patch
Peal the sticker off the clear acetate paper and apply it over the spot. Wear overnight or at least for six hours. (FYI, the stickers are pretty discreet so you could get away with wearing one to the shops unbeknown to fellow shoppers.)
4. Remove Mighty Patch
Remove the sticker once the patch has turned ‘opaque white’ and find your spot visibly reduced.

Does it actually work?

Well, first of all it’s worth noting that if you suffer from cystic acne - the most severe form of Acne Vulgaris and a type of infection that forms deep below skin tissue - you should see a doctor or dermatologist for further help.

While we did have our doubts that a sticker could heal a spot (if you’ve ever attempted to use a cold sore patch, you’ll know how difficult it is to keep those things on in the night), Mighty Patch appears to be gaining some serious ‘street cred’ from the press, if that’s anything to go by.

Earlier this year, one user explained to Business Insider how the patches are 'really work at clearing my acne overnight'. Meanwhile, Into the Gloss reported: ‘It's almost too good to be true.’

We're not saying Mighty Patch is going to cure your acne for good, remove blackheads and leave you with clear, red-free skin. But, if you're in need of a quick-fix solution for a bulging spot, having a box or two of these in your bathroom cupboard could be your new beauty first aid go-to.

If you want to give Mighty Patch a go for yourself, you can buy 36 x 12mm patches for £12.99 on Amazon here.
