We review Supergoop's new Sheer Screen mineral SPF

·3-min read

Oh the sunshine, how we’ve missed you!

If you’re like us, you’ll be packing your favourite tote bag with tinnies, snacks and maybe a book to enjoy at your local park this weekend. But there’s one thing we just can’t forget, not just when the sunshine makes its glorious return, but every single day. Yep, you guessed it, it’s sunscreen.

But when it comes to choosing the right one, you’d be forgiven for being confused at the incredibly saturated market, with an array of products to choose from, each promising different things.

If you’re looking for a product to start with, we’d advise you to stick to the classic, tried and tested brands that are known for delivering big, and under that umbrella falls celebrity favourite brand, Supergoop! who developed a cult following after the launch of their popular Unseen Screen.

And now, Supergoop! have introduced a mineral spf 30 to their range, promising second-skin, sheer protection by harnessing the protective powers of minerals alongside skin-loving ingredients.

What is it?

A 100% non-nano zinc oxide mineral primer that feels like a weightless veil and delivers broad spectrum SPF 30, plus filters blue light

According to the brand, the formula features an innovative SheerMatrix Technology that suspends the sunscreen actives in a matrix for a totally sheer finish unlike any other mineral formula, without compromising efficacy. It delivers broad spectrum SPF 30, plus filters blue light

Who is it for?

Sheerscreen’s formula was made especially for those who have sensitive, normal to combination and oily to acne-prone skin.

Does it work?

I took this on my week-long getaway to Greece, and wore it every day, multiple times a day to truly put it to the test.

First up, the texture is silky and lightweight, with a whipped consistency. If you’re a fan of Unseen Screen, then you’ll recognise the familiar lightweight texture that Supergoop! Do so well. According to the brand, the product can also double as a makeup-gripping primer, so if you love a multipurpose product, then this one is for you.

The scent is buttery, similar to a cookie but definitely not unpleasant. My partner tried it and found the scent a bit too overwhelming, but it doesn’t last long on the skin, so isn’t too distinct.

It comes in a 45ml bottle, which was enough to properly protect my face during the sun over the course of the week, and i’d say I still have a good amount left in the bottle.

I have quite sensitive skin, and on holidays when i’m applying and reapplying sunscreen throughout the day, I’m sometimes left with sore, tight skin. However, after using this for a week, my skin felt totally normal, and no redness or pesky burnt patches (bridge of the nose and tops of the ears, I’m looking at you) in sight.

Extra info?

Skincare lovers, this bit’s for you. This formula is jam packed with botanicals to deliver skin-loving results, such as:

  • Bush Clover Extract, an antioxidant harvested in South Korea that helps reduce the signs of ageing and minimise the visible effects of stress

  • Aloe Leaf Juice + Squalane These plant extracts help provide a natural-feeling moisturising benefit, leaving the skin smooth, soft and without a greasy residue.

Final verdict

At £34 for 45ml, it’s definitely on the pricier side when you compare it to some equally great high street heroes. But if you’re looking for something that puts skin first, is kinder to skin health and delivers protection, without compromising on quality, then this one’s for you. I think I’ve been converted from Unseen Screen, and can see myself reaching for this one daily now i’m back in the city.
