Revealed: the smart devices that could add the most value to your home

New research by Compare the Market has revealed that over half of Brits would pay more for a home if it already came with smart technology installed in it.

Depending on the smart device, this could amount to homebuyers being willing to pay as much as £2,409 for a home kitted out with the last tech and innovations.

Almost 90 per cent of Brits already own a smart device in their home, with almost half using smart meters and 20 per cent utilising smart bulbs or switches. And according to the survey, the average household spends around £350 on smart devices.

So, which smart devices in our homes could add extra value?

Here are the top smart devices to implement in your home to raise your house value (and the extra amount homebuyers are willing to pay):

  1. Smart security systems, such as cameras and window sensors - £345.10

  2. Smart white goods, such as fridges - £242.85

  3. Smart locks - £221.40

  4. A smart sound system (multi-room audio control) - £217.75

  5. Smart blinds/curtain automation - £214.85

  6. Smart lighting system (i.e. smart bulbs / multi-room lighting control) - £207.73

  7. Smart air detectors, such as smoke/carbon monoxide - £199.35

  8. A smart thermostat (i.e. Hive) - £197.58

  9. Smart irrigation systems (for gardens) - £196.90

  10. Water sensors - £184.70

  11. Smart doorbell/door sensor - £180.80

Overall total = £2,409.00

This is because home automation systems, such as smart lighting and CCTV, can help to increase security and detect any issues much earlier than without them.
