Report: Wild have 'actively shopped' Matt Dumba
Right-shot defensemen could wind up being the hottest commodity in the NHL’s off-scheduled offseason, and the Minnesota Wild seem intent on finding out what one of their own could bring back in return.
After the Wild came to terms on a massive extension for Jonas Brodin on Tuesday, The Athletic’s Michael Russo reports that Wild general manager Bill Guerin has gauged the market’s interest in Matt Dumba, while beginning to actively seek out trades.
Dumba scored six times and finished with 24 points in 69 games for the Wild this past season, while posting relatively unspectacular underlying numbers across the board.
He’s scheduled to earn $6 million in each of the next three seasons.
Dumba was the recipient of the King Clancy Award in 2020 for his work with several charitable endeavours.
A member of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, Dumba was also one of the leaders in the NHL’s re-start in raising awareness to social injustices and the work that needs to be done in hockey to eradicate racism and intolerance from the sport.
Dumba delivered a powerful speech on behalf of the Hockey Diversity Alliance before an Aug. 1 game between the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks, before kneeling for the U.S. National Anthem. He would then raise his fist during both anthems for the remainder of his time in the bubble.
