Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer has opened up about why she doesn't post on social media, saying it causes her too much "anxiety."

She has more than 6 million followers on Instagram after her huge breakout role as Nancy Wheeler on Netflix's Stranger Things, but Natalia Dyer has shared fewer than 100 posts on the social media platform and according to a recent interview she purposely doesn't engage with it too much for the sake of her mental health.

"I really don't find social media easy. Almost increasingly so," she said in an interview with ELLE. "Everybody's different and some people are very good at it. And some people really enjoy it.

"For me, it kind of just seems like a lot of anxiety and asks a lot. I've always been very private," she added.

Even before she starred in the hit series, Dyer said that she had never been hugely active on social media, saying the before Stranger Things she had "maybe three followers" on Instagram.

"It's almost expected of the 'celebrity' to have it and engage and it's just counterintuitive to my nature," she explained.

"Sometimes there are times I really get into it, and then there are times like during this whole year where it's been very nice to not be there except for certain moments where I just want to be clear on where I stand and what I think."

Dyer has posted on Instagram just twice this year; once to support the Black Lives Matter movement and the second time to promote the trailer for her film Yes God Yes. She also changed her bio to encourage people to register to vote in the US presidential election that took place last week.
