We're still reeling from the news that Regé-Jean Page will not be reprising his role as Simon Basset the Duke of Hastings for season two of Bridgerton, but already he has had to respond to rumours he might be taking over the role of James Bond following his recent exit from the hit Netflix series.
Speculation surrounding Page as a possible next Bond has been rife for months, with his exit from the Bridgerton only giving weight to the rumours. Speaking the The Mirror, Page revealed that actually he quite likes the rumour.
"Ah, the 'B' word," he said when asked about Bond. "I think that if you are British, and you do anything of note that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.
"I think that’s fairly normal, and I'm flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed," he said, adding, "Nothing more – or less – than that."
He continued, "I think the concept of having plans in this moment in history is mildly hilarious. So I've given up on making them."
Of course, this is neither a 'yes' nor a 'no' which has obviously sent the internet straight into tailspin accordingly, with many fans saying that it's the only thing that will ease their Bridgerton woes.
Last week Page spoke about his decision to leave the hit Netflix series, explaining that he had actually never planned to stay on the show for longer than one season. Speaking to Variety in an exclusive interview Page said that he entered his role as Simon knowing that the character was never set to return for season two.
