I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there's something you need to know. Actually, you might want to sit down for this. Here goes: Regé-Jean Page (AKA The Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset) will not be returning for season 2 of Netflix's hit show Bridgerton. Devastating.
While we already knew that season 2 is going to focus on the eldest Bridgerton brother, Anthony Bridgerton, and his journey to find love, we didn't know that the Duke (and his spoon) wouldn't be present!
The Bridgerton Twitter account confirmed the tragic news this evening through none other than Lady Whistledown herself, who swapped her Society Papers for the social media platform (very 2021):
"Dearest Readers, While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton's quest to find Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We'll miss Simon's presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer - more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear. Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown."
Rege-Jean has also confirmed the news on his own account, writing:
"Pleasure and a privilege!" writes Page. "An honour to be a member of the family - on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans - the love is real and will just keep growing."
While we're still coming to terms with the news, fans are sharing their thoughts/feelings/emotions on Twitter:
Even Kim Kardashian - who started watching the show last month, following a personal recommendation from Nicola Coughlan, AKA Penelope Featherington in the show - has reacted to Rege's Tweet, writing "WAIT!!! WHAT???" and we can totally relate.
