Reese Witherspoon and former husband Ryan Phillippe reunited over the weekend to celebrate their son Deacon's 18th birthday.

Actor Ryan posted a black and white photo of himself and Reese with their arms around Deacon as they posed in front of his impressive looking birthday cake. The Shooter star added the heartfelt caption: 'Happy 18th birthday to our gorgeous, smart, talented, and caring son. You are a true light in this world and are so loved by all who know you. We are lucky to be your mom and dad. Love you, pup..(I’d say we did pretty good @reesewitherspoon).'

Reese commented: 'So proud of our boy ... I mean our ADULT Son!'

The Oscar winner also shared a series of photos of Deacon over the years, and added the emotional message: 'How did this happen?!! @deaconphillippe is 18?!! One day he was trading Pokémon cards, singing Bruno Mars songs, and playing American Ninja Warrior in the backyard.

'The next day, he is taller than me, cooking the family steaks on the grill and making his own music with his best friends. My heart is bursting with pride about the young man he is becoming. Happy 18th Birthday Deacon! I love you to the moon around the sun and all the stars.'

Reese and Ryan met on the set of 1999's cult teen movie Cruel Intentions and married in June that year when the couple were expecting their first child, Ava. They welcomed Deacon in 2003, before officially ending their marriage in 2007.

Reese recently paid tribute to her 'wonderful, passionate, curious' husband celebrity agent Jim Toth to mark his birthday, posting a photograph of the pair smiling arm in arm as they sat on a bench with a stunning backdrop of a white sandy beach and turquoise sea.

The pair also celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary this year after marrying in 2011. They share eight-year-old son Tennessee James Toth.
