Due to the coronavirus lockdown and school closures, the summer holidays aren't the same long-awaited break as usual. Add to that, the fact that many family-friendly activities and facilities are closed, and social distancing limits play dates, and it's clear that parents are having to get creative this summer to keep little ones happy.
Film star turned movie and TV mogul Reese Witherspoon is no different. Though her eldest two children, Ava and Deacon, are 20 and 16 respectively, her youngest son Tennessee James is coming up to his eighth birthday in September, and like all seven-year-olds will take a lot of entertaining with so much summer fun cancelled.
Posting to Instagram, the A-lister asked parents for their ideas for 'Home Summer Camp' and encouraged them to start their own too.
Writing in the caption: "All the PARENTS out there... let’s do this at home summer camp thing! I LOVE camp! I love a slip’n’slide, popsicles at lunch and some friendship bracelets. But my skills are rusty, to say the least. I’m welcoming all craft ideas and backyard games suggestions! 🏕"
And let's just say her followers didn't disappoint. The comment section quickly filled with ideas for all kinds of child-friendly activities.
One had some ideas for how the camp should be set up, advising: "Star gazing with s'mores is a must! Also, give your summer camp a fun name and make up a camp theme song!"
Another suggested watching 80s Wilderness Girls comedy, Troop Beverly Hills for inspiration.
"One of my faves is picking up bits of nature like twigs, dandelions, leaves, and then use them as brushes to paint ," said one arty follower, and other ideas included water balloon fights and scavenger hunts.
With endless ideas for Reese to choose from, we imagine her two eldest will want in on the fun as well, and we just have one question... can we come to Home Summer Camp?
