Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have only just announced their split after two years together, but already we've got a bit of an insight into what caused the pair to part ways and how the break-up actually went down.

Earlier this week (18 Nov) the PDA-power couple announced their split in a short but heartfelt statement posted via Instagram Stories.

"Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward. Camila and Shawn."

Now, a source close to Camila has revealed that the break-up itself actually happened last week, with Shawn initiating the conversation about parting ways. Reportedly, Camila was "very upset over the split," but that she "agreed" it was the right thing to do.

"It was really hard for a few days but she has been spending a lot of time with friends and keeping busy," the source told E! "She has a huge support system and is feeling renewed now."

The insider added the it was "not a bad breakup at all," with the pair still speaking and keen to make a friendship work. According to the source, the split was merely down to the fact the relationship had run its course.

"The relationship was getting stale and complacent and they decided they are better off being friends."

We hope both Shawn and Camila are doing okay!
