The real reason Meghan Markle quit social media before joining the royal family

From Cosmopolitan

Before marrying Prince Harry and becoming royalty, Meghan Markle (who formerly starred in Suits) made some pretty big changes. Not only were there new rules she'd have to follow when it comes to things like clothing, plus some wild-sounding classes to be undertaken, but it was expected that she'd no longer use her own social media accounts. However, it's now been revealed that there was another reason The Duchess of Sussex decided to bin off Instagram et al, and her lifestyle blog, The Tig.

Speaking (virtually, of course) about the subject of social media during the Fortune Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit, she shared that her decision to step away from scrolling was more of a personal one, rather than based on anything The Queen would've wanted (none of the royal family members have personal accounts... although Prince Harry did have a sneaky one a few years back).

"For my own self-preservation, I have not been on social media for a very long time," said Meghan. "I'd had a personal account years ago, which I closed down, and then we had one through the institution and our office that was in the U.K.—separate from us, that wasn't managed by us, that was a whole team."

She added, "I think that comes with a territory for the job that you have. I've made a personal choice to not have any account. So I don't know what's out there and in many ways, that's helpful for me. I have a lot of concerns for people that have become obsessed with it."

This comes shortly after the mother of one referred to herself as "the most trolled person in the world" and Prince Harry penned an emotional article urging the public to rethink the way they interact with one another online.

Meghan echoed her husband's sentiments at the summit, by adding, "It is so much a part of our daily culture for so many people that it's an addiction like many others. There is something algorithmically that is creating this obsession, and I think it's very unhealthy for a lot of people. I would just say, as you are out there building your brand, as you're out there engaging with your friends online, just be conscious of what you're doing and understand that it is not limited to that one moment."

So... no chance of The Tig relaunching then?
