Is this the real reason behind Zayn and Gigi's split?
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have reportedly gone their separate ways after six years together on-and-off, and 13 months after welcoming their baby daughter Khai back in 2020. While there have been various claims surrounding a dispute between Zayn and Gigi's mum Yolanda Hadid, the alleged reason for the split has come to light following reports from sources.
The news of the split was first reported in People, who spoke to sources claiming that the singer and model have split once again, with a Hadid family friend reportedly saying, "They are not together right now. They are both good parents though... They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild."
Now, the alleged reason for the split has emerged in various news reports with sources claiming that the tension began when Zayn accused Yolanda of leaking the news about the couple's pregnancy.
An insider told The Sun that the couple had hoped to make the most of falling pregnant during lockdown, and keep the news under wraps until Gigi had given birth. However, the source claims that Zayn and Yolanda "clashed" since the pair did not have the "same sense of privacy."
"Gigi and Zayn didn't want to announce it publicly until after Gigi gave birth," the source claimed. "With lockdown, it was the perfect time to give them that privacy they never would have had otherwise.
"They were so grateful for that privacy and they were very upset when it came out. Zayn is a very, very private person and while dating him, Gigi has become a lot more private too."
Speculation surrounding the pregnancy ramped up early last year after Yolanda 'liked' a post on Instagram discussing the possibility that the pair were expecting. She then confirmed the news during an interview with Dutch publication RTL Boulevard, in which said that although she was "shocked our little secret got leaked to press," she is very "excited."
Gigi and Zayn previously split briefly back in 2018, rekindling their romance shortly before the news broke about baby Khai. The Sun's source added that they wouldn't be surprised if the pair reunited after this split, too, adding that they parted ways with "the intention of getting back together."
"They've broken up multiple times before so when it comes to them getting back together, never say never... But they definitely need time apart, it's what's best for everyone involved."
