Rare coins worth fortune – with one special 20p piece selling for £750
You never know when a rare coin is worth more than face value – unless you have it checked.
Well since coins are hot topic these days, experts are constantly advising collectors to check their stash for any hidden gems. There are many ways to find a special kind in your pocket, whether it boasts an error or has low mintage.
Now TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard is on a mission to alert the British public about two coins which could be worth hundreds more than face value. He claimed one of the designs recently sold for £205 on eBay, while the other is valued at £750.

So do you have any of these in your pocket? Speaking with his 210,500 followers, the user asked: "Have you ever found a coin that just doesn't look right? It could be an error!" He then went onto detail two specific coins, starting with the error £1.
He revealed: "This error £1 coin has had the design for the new £1 struck on an old £1 coin base. The error is believed to have happened when the familiar round £1 was replaced with the new 12-sided coin in 2017. One recently sold on eBay for £205 in 2018."
Meanwhile a bronze 20p coin also kicked up a fuss online after experts claimed it sold for nearly £800 recently. The user continued: "One mistake collectors want to get their hands on is this normally silver 20p coin in bronze.
"This happened after being struck onto the metal normally struck for a 1p coin that had slipped into the wrong batch. This error has been confirmed by the Royal Mint as an extremely sought-after minting error.
"These are super rare and are not specific to any year. We've had a look online to see how much these error coins sell for but it doesn't look like there are any currently available on sale. But experts have previously valued these coins at £750 each."
Often rare coins can be dismissed in your pocket, but the reality is so much more different. Finding a special coin can be down to a number of factors, whether it has low mintage or an interesting story behind it.
