Do you ever actually check your change when you leave a shop? You never know, it could be worth something...

A small number of £2 coins released in 2015 are tipped to become valuable thanks to a mistake that has been confirmed by the Royal Mint, according to Change Checker.

Around 3,500 of the 650,000 Britannia £2 coins became misaligned because of a mistake with the die during the striking process. This resulted in the Queen's head being offset by around 150 degrees, which means it appears to be upside down in comparison to the image of Britannia on the reverse side of the coin.

Change Checker estimates that the 'Inverted Effigy' may have affected just 1 in 200 of the coins struck, but it's likely the mistake has caused other variations. While it's difficult to know exactly how much they will be worth at this stage, the site expects the coins to cause "great excitement" amongst collectors.

If previous rare coins are any indication, these £2s could reach a considerable sum. A collection of 50ps which were made to commemorate the 2012 London Olympics fetched up to £3,000 on eBay last year.
