Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh has admitted she feels as “enormous amount of guilt” as a working single mum, as she prepares to take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

The 43-year-old newsreader – who a single mother to eight-year-old son Tushaan – is preparing to take part in a gruelling schedule of rehearsals and live filming for the BBC dance show.

“I struggle with an enormous amount of guilt with my son and not being there when he goes to school. We’re very attached to one another because it’s just me and him.

“I do get quite tearful sometimes and I worry he’s going to hate me when he grows up because I was never there.”

The GMB presenter said she would not elaborate on the reasons for her split from her husband in order to protect her son.

Revealing on the ITV show earlier this week that she would be competing in Strictly, Singh joked she is not afraid of the so-called ‘Strictly curse’ which in the past has seen contestants’ relationships crumble as they grow close to their professional dance partners.

Singh joked to GMB co-hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, “I am single,” when they teased her about the curse.

Since Strictly Come Dancing began in 2004 numerous celebrities have fallen victim to the curse, with their relationships breaking down as a result of taking part on the show.

After the very first series, newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky split from her long-term partner Mike Barnard and her dance partner Brendan Cole ended his engagement to Camilla Dallerup.

Other victims of the curse include singer Louise Redknapp, rugby player Ben Cohen and dancers Katya and Neil Jones.

Strictly has sparked numerous romances including Flavia Cacace and actor Jimi Mistry, Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts and Giovanni Pernice, and last year’s winners, TV presenter Stacey Dooley and her partner Kevin Clifton.

Other celebrities taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this year include Men Behaving Badly Caroline Quentin, comedian Bill Bailey, Labour politician Jacqui Smith and boxer Nicola Adams, who will be part of the show’s first same-sex couple.
