Rachel Zegler’s Fiery Flattering Gown Is the Perfect Ode to Katniss Everdeen

Rachel Zegler is best known for her breakout role in the 2021 West Side Story adaptation, but the actress is now pivoting to another major project that has a good chance at defining her career.
The 22-year-old stars in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, out Nov. 17. The film’s world premiere was held in Berlin on Sunday, Nov. 5, and Zegler paid the perfect tribute to Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Katniss Everdeen (a.k.a “the girl on fire”).
The New Jersey native wore the most stunning Alexander McQueen dress featuring a figure-skimming silhouette with a flared mermaid bottom. The corset gown featured a flattering asymmetrical bust and a red floral pattern that resembled fiery flames. The luxury designer described it as a “red skeletal orchid poly faille jacquard” on the hem. The entire ensemble was styled by Sarah Slutsky Tooley, who completed the outfit with diamond hoop earrings from Chopard.
Makeup artist Valeria Ferreira opted for a matching bold glam look with a sheer red smokey eye, bronzed cheeks, feathered brows, minimal black lashes and a dramatic red lip. Hairstylist Leigh Keates loosely curled Zegler’s short dark locks for a smooth and sleek style pinned behind her ears.

Zegler plays the role of Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12, the same zone as Katniss and Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson). The film is a prequel to the rest of the series, set 64 years before, during the 10th Hunger Games.
