ITV's upcoming three-part drama covers the Who Wants to be a Millionaire coughing scandal from 2001 where an army Major, his wife and another accomplice cheated their way to the grand prize of £1m on the famous game show.

The scandal was making headlines for months. It even had it's own sell-out play on the West End play, and now ITV is releasing a star-studded drama all about the story.

Here's everything we know so far.

What's the plot of Quiz?

In 2001 Major Charles Ingram won a spot on the seminal quiz show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, where contestants compete to win a maximum of £1million by answering general knowledge questions to host, Chris Tarrant. I can't stress how big this show was back in the day, whole families would settle in for a weekly Saturday night viewing sesh, so when rumours began to swirl that the Major - who had correctly answered his way to a mil, might have somehow cheated, it was huge news.

The show tells the whole crazy story, from how the group plotted to get themselves on the show to their plan to cough from the audience for every right answer. Eventually, the Major, his wife and their accomplice were all given suspended prison sentences.

Who has been cast in Quiz?

The cast is like a who's who of British TV celebrities, with Michael Sheen playing Chris Tarrant, Succession's Matthew Macfayden as Major Charles Ingram and Fleabag's Sian Clifford as his wife and accomplice, Diana Ingram.
