Quentin Tarantino shares the fate of Once Upon a Time's character
Quentin Tarantino just brought the meta references and the world-building of his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to the next level with this Rick Dalton mention.
Released in 2019, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as fictional actor Dalton, whose story gets intertwined with a real-life Hollywood tragedy: the brutal murder of Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie) at the hands of Charles Manson's acolytes.
In a tweet through The Video Archives, a podcast Tarantino co-hosts with his Pulp Fiction writing partner Roger Avary, the filmmaker confirmed Dalton's passing.

"We are saddened by the news of the passing of actor Rick Dalton, best known for his roles in the hit TV series Bounty Law and The Fireman trilogy," the tweet reads.
The tribute also includes details of Rick's life, confirming he and his wife Francesca Capucci, played by Lorenza Izzo in the movie, remained together until his death.
"Rick passed away peacefully in his home in Hawaii and is survived by his wife Francesca. RIP Rick Dalton 1933-2023."

The jest continues with the hosts hinting at a tribute to Dalton's career and biggest roles in the next episode.
"Because of his passing, the episode for Rollerball has been postponed. Instead, we will come back on Tuesday with a memorial episode designed by Quentin that features some of Rick's best roles," the tweet reads.
Tarantino topped it all off with some meta icing on the cake in the form of a celebratory marquee at his own cinema in LA to give Dalton a proper send-off. The New Beverly Cinema, owned and run by the director, expressed their condolences with a message in Dalton's honour, describing him as "a wonderful actor."

And while you may not find episodes of Bounty Law to watch to commemorate Dalton, you can eagerly anticipate DiCaprio's next film role in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. It's just premiered at Cannes Film Festival and will be coming to a screen near you this autumn.
Killers of the Flower Moon will release in cinemas on October 20, 2023.
