The Queen has wished Princess Anne a Happy Birthday as the Princess Royal turns 72 today (15th August).

The Royal Family's official Twitter account shared a lovely photo of Princess Anne taken at the Not Forgotten Association Garden Party at Buckingham Palace back in May.

In the image, Princess Anne can be seen wearing a lilac hat and a pastel-coloured floral ensemble as she smiled at guests at the event, which brought together more than 2,000 beneficiaries of all ages and services with their carers and escorts.

"Wishing The Princess Royal a happy birthday today!" the caption read.

The Queen and Princess Anne recently attended a mother-daughter engagement to open a hospice building at Thames Hospice in Berkshire. The royal mother-daughter duo met and spoke with staff and trustees of the centre. Both were presented with small bouquets of flowers during their visit.

The Queen unveiled a new plaque while Princess Anne stood alongside. Photographs of the day show the pair smiling, laughing and engaging with team members during their visit together.

Princess Anne, married to Sir Timothy Laurence, has two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, from her relationship with her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips. She is grandmother to Zara and Mike Tindall's three children - Mia, eight, Lena, four, and one-year-old Lucas, and Peter and his ex-wife Autumn's children - Savannah, 11, and Isla, ten.

The Princess Royal recently joined sailors on the Solent in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The special showcase saw a total of 400 boats come together on the Solent to mark the occasion, with hundreds of members of the local sailing and yachting community taking part.
