The Queen has shared a heartwarming photo of herself and the Queen Mother looking fondly at one another to celebrate Mothering Sunday.

The black and white picture was shared on the 94-year-old monarch’s official social-media platforms, along with the caption: “To all Mums everywhere, we wish you a very special Mother’s Day.”

Her Majesty was just 13 when the image was captured on the grounds of the Royal Lodge at Windsor, the day before her fourteenth birthday in 1940.

The Queen Mother died in 2002 aged 101.
