The Queen has shared a previously unseen photo of herself and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, ahead of his funeral today. The royal couple, who were married for 73 years, are pictured sitting together in a beauty spot in the Coyles of Muick in Aberdeenshire, a 30-minute drive from the Queen's Scottish residence Balmoral.

Taken by the royal couple's daughter-in-law the Countess of Wessex in 2003, the picture shows Prince Philip reclining on the grass with a bucket hat balanced on his knee and the Queen sat next to him wearing a tartan skirt. They are both smiling warmly at the camera in what must be a cherished memory.

The photo was shared on the Royal Family Instagram with the caption, "The Queen wishes to share this private photograph taken with The Duke of Edinburgh at the top of the Coyles of Muick, Scotland in 2003.

'Her Majesty and the Royal Family are grateful for all the messages of condolence from around the world and have been touched to see and hear so many people sharing fond memories of The Duke, in celebration of his life."

Prince Philip's funeral will take place today, Saturday, 17 April at 3pm. It will be attended by small group of 30 family, including Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, as well as long-serving workers of the royal family.

Prince William has also shared a previously unseen photo of Prince Philip, taken by the Duchess of Cambridge. The photo, released on Kensington Royal's Instagram shows Prince Philip sitting with his great-grandson Prince George.

Our thoughts are with all of the royal family at this sad time.
