The Queen posted a sweet tribute to Mary Berry in honour of her Damehood

The Queen has posted a tribute to the newly honoured Dame Mary Berry, who received her Damehood yesterday (21 October).

Dame Mary Berry was honoured for her services to culinary arts and received her Damehood from The Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

A photo of the smiling Dame Mary holding her award was shared on the official Royal Family Instagram account. The cooking legend looked radiant in a pale pink dress with a bow detail at the waistline and matching floral hat.

A caption alongside the image read, “Arise Dame Mary Berry! Congratulations to the food writer, TV presenter and former judge on @britishbakeoff who received her Damehood for services to culinary arts from The Prince of Wales today.”

Dame Mary was one of many honoured during the day, and the post highlighted the contributions of two other recipients, including, “war crimes prosecutor Kwai Hong Ip for services to international criminal justice” and “Karen Gibson, gospel music director and founder and conductor of The Kingdom Choir for services to music.”

Prince Charles presented the awards alongside his sister Princess Anne at two Investitures (the official name for a ceremony of this kind) at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (19 October).

Dame Mary Berry's husband, Paul Hunnings, joined her at the event to celebrate his wife's achievement.

Dame Mary Berry also received high praise from members of the public, who flocked to the comments to offer their support.

“Well deserved Queen of cakes Mary Berry," read one comment, while another said, “Well done and congratulations to Dame Mary Berry, So pleased and proud of her.”

Another heartfelt message read, “Congratulations Dame Mary Berry... The entertainment and lessons you have given to millions of people around the world for so many, many years is recognised by the sovereign... well-deserved.”
