The royal family keeps on growing! Just five days after Princess Eugenie shared the happy news that she had safely delivered a son (whose name is yet to be revealed), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced to the world that the Duchess of Sussex is pregnant – and the Queen had the sweetest response.

Meghan and Harry's second child will be the Queen's tenth or eleventh great-grandchild, depending on whether or not he or she arrives before or after Harry's cousin, Zara Tindall's, third baby. At present, it is not known how far along into her pregnancy Meghan is, but judging by the size of her bump, seen in the intimate photo the Sussexes shared when announcing their happy news, she's a fair few months down the line.

As for Her Majesty's reaction to the news of Meghan and Harry's growing family, following the confirmation made by a Sussex spokesperson – "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child." – Buckingham Palace also released a statement: "Her Majesty, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire royal family are delighted and wish them well."

So far, Harry's brother Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are yet to personally congratulate the Sussexes on the pregnancy in public, ditto Princess Eugenie or Princess Beatrice. However, given that Meghan and Harry stepped down from their senior royal roles over a year ago, and no longer have public social media accounts, it's likely that the messages have been sent privately this time around.

Meghan and Harry's baby news was shared yesterday, on Valentine's Day, a date that many royal fans are speculating is symbolic, given that it was the 13 February 1984 that Harry's mother, Princess Diana, told the world that she was pregnant with her second son. The news made headlines the following day, 14 February, Valentine's Day.

The announcement is also especially poignant given that last November, Meghan published a moving essay about experiencing a miscarriage. Her honesty will no doubt have helped many families going through a similar loss.

We're over the moon for the Sussexes too – congratulations again to Meghan, Harry and little Archie, who is soon to be a big brother!
