Queen Charlotte season 2 news and updates
If, like us, you quickly binge watched Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story this weekend, you may be asking yourself if there will be a season two of the Netflix show. Well, here’s what we know about the possibility of a second season.
The Bridgerton prequel, which details the life of the eponymous Queen Charlotte, is a limited series of six episodes, which means that it was only ever intended to be one season. However, it wouldn’t be the first time that a limited series returned for future seasons, a la The White Lotus.
But what could we possibly expect from a season two. Here’s everything we know so far…
Has Queen Charlotte been renewed for a second season?
At the moment it has not officially been renewed for a second season but we wouldn’t be surprised if we do get a surprise renewal at some point.
Normally if a show has been a ratings success on the streaming platform – remember how Squid Game was only intended to be one series but ended up getting renewed after it broke worldwide records – and the cast and crew are on board, anything is possible.
The show’s creator Shonda Rhimes also isn’t “ruling anything out.”
Speaking to EW, she revealed, “there have been questions, but I’m not having conversations about it yet. I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love.”
However, she did add, “but I’m not ruling anything out because I never know.”
How did season one of Queen Charlotte end?
Quite a lot goes on in that last episode, which is why we’ve dedicated an entire article to it. But essentially, everything is tied up pretty neatly by the end of the season.
But as we saw over the course of the six episodes, this season only accounts for a short period in time in the lives of Queen Charlotte and the spin-off cast. So, there could technically be plenty of scope for more stories to be told.
What might happen in a season 2?
If a season two does happen, we've got a feeling that there will be plenty more heartbreaking scenes as King George's condition continues to worsen.
We'll no doubt see Charlotte forced to break with tradition to take on more responsibilities as George's health declines.
We also know from the later timeline that Charlotte manages to maintain their power but exactly how that happens is a bit of mystery right now. So this is something that could definitely be explored in future episodes or seasons.
Will there be more Bridgerton stories coming to our screens?
Season three of Bridgerton, which will follow Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton)’s love story.
Netflix have also committed to making a season four of the hit period drama, with Shonda Rhimes wanting to make eight Bridgerton seasons – one for each of the Bridgerton siblings/books.
