The Queen has announced a series of events to mark her historic Platinum Jubilee, across the Jubilee weekend in June next year.

From Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June 2022 there will be a range of events commemorating the Queen’s historic reign of 70 years. This will mean an additional four-day bank holiday next year.

An announcement was made on the official Royal Family Instagram account, which shared a smiling photograph of Her Majesty, along with a stunning black and white throwback, and other images of The Queen greeting the public over the years.

Full details of the celebrations have been shared on the Royal Family’s website, which details four days of “public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.”

Highlights include The Queen’s Birthday Parade, known as Trooping the Colour, which combines hundreds of musicians and horses with 1,400 soldiers in a parade down the mall with an RAF fly-past.

Some members of the Royal Family will watch from the balcony with the Queen, while others join the parade on horseback and in carriages.

Her Majesty will also attend The Derby at Epsom Downs, a special BBC live concert will be broadcast from Buckingham Palace and a Platinum Jubilee Pageant of “street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume” will run, featuring more than 5,000 people.

Beacons of light will also be lit across the British Isles and Overseas Territories, while street parties and more will take place across the weekend in a huge celebration.

At her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the Her Majesty will have been Queen for 70 years making her the longest-reigning monarch, since overtaking Queen Victoria who reigned for nearly 64 years.
