Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have broken away from the Kensington Palace royal household in more ways than one. The parents-to-be moved to their new residence, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, earlier this month; their office is being relocated to Buckingham Palace with a set of new staff; and they've got a brand new Instagram account, separate to that of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Although the royals have a whole team of communications experts at their fingertips, it seems Meghan herself may have taken the reins of her new account with Prince Harry. Because there are some pretty big clues it could be the Duchess of Sussex writing those captions.
The most recent post on the @SussexRoyal Instagram account, uploaded yesterday, detailed the incredible impact already resulted from public donations in lieu of sending gifts for the royal baby. And while it started out in typically royal fashion (read: formal), the caption soon became uncharacteristically personable.
"Their Royal Highnesses wanted you to know the impact of your support – the direct effect your donation, energy, and action made! YOU chose to be part of the collective good, and you have made a real difference," read the caption on the post.
"You made this happen. Thank you." it signed off.
It's rare for an Instagram post to directly address followers, which has made many believe Meghan herself is behind the social media account.
Two months after Meghan and Harry announced their engagement, in January 2018, the former actress deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts. Despite having had millions of followers, it wasn't deemed appropriate for such a senior future member of the royal family to have a personal Instagram account, so Meghan made the decision to delete it. But perhaps the Duchess has been missing her morning scroll, because it very much sounds like her voice coming through on the newly created @SussexRoyal Instagram account.
The affable nature of the caption isn't the only piece of evidence to suggest the Duchess of Sussex has re-downloaded Instagram. It's also the choice of spelling on some words that drops a rather large hint.
According to the Insta-post, the donations and offers of volunteer work one charity - Little Village HQ - received from the public has "re-energized" the team. Energized or energised, Meghan?
Another charity, Baby2Baby, has received thousands of products for the benefit of children who need them, including books, backpacks, and "diapers". The use of American English in the account's posts suggest it could well be the Duchess of Sussex who's writing them, which is pretty cool if it is.
It's obvious both Meghan and Harry care an enormous amount about the work that they do, so it wouldn't be surprising if they had taken the decision to personally share this with followers themselves by taking control of their own Instagram account.
And, well, I can't wait to see what the baby announcement will be like in that case.
