Princess Victoria of Sweden Paired an H&M Dress With a 119-Year-Old Diamond Tiara

When it comes to fashion, the royals are known for having favorite high-end designers. For example, Kate Middleton favors Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen, while her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, is a fan of Veronica Beard, Carolina Herrera, and Givenchy. However, just because you're in line for the throne, doesn't mean you're above high-low dressing (Middleton is the queen of pairing her luxury items with pieces from Zara). Just ask Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. The heir to the Swedish throne most recently paired an ornate, 119-year-old diamond tiara with a dress from the most surprisingly accessible brand.

On Wednesday, the future monarch attended the Nobel Laureates dinner, which took place at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, in a $290 navy blue gown from H&M's conscious collection with a full, ruffled chiffon skirt and a mesh neckline. She accessorized with a silver cuff bracelet, diamond choker, and drop earrings, as well as a double-decker tiara. The diamond head piece, better known as the Boucheron Laurel Wreath Tiara, was inherited by Princess Victoria from her great aunt, Princess Lilian, who died in 2013, according to The Court Jeweller.

According to the the blog, the tiara-necklace hybrid has a connection to the British royals. The crown was given to Queen Victoria's granddaughter Princess Margaret of Connaught. When she died, her daughter-in-law, Princess Lilian, received the crown, and she ultimately passed it down to Victoria. The piece has two rows of diamonds that resemble laurel wreaths with a dangling diamond pendant in the middle.

Like her British royal counterparts, Princess Victoria loves an upcycled moment. She took a page out of Kate Middleton's book by rewearing the H&M dress that she originally wore for her 10th anniversary portraits with husband Prince Daniel in 2020 and again at 2022 event. Victoria differentiated the piece his time around, however, by adding the sheer short sleeves—according to Marie Claire the dress was originally sleeveless.

Just last week, Princess Kate recycled a red Alexander McQueen red coat which she accessorized with a black velvet bow and style with a pleated tartan skirt that she also wore in 2018.
