Today marks what would have been Prince Philip's 100th birthday and it's clear that he's still very much loved and missed by his family, some of whom have shared touching personal tributes to him on social media. Princess Eugenie took to Instagram to post her special nod to the Duke, alongside an image of him and The Queen at her wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Keeping the caption simple and to the point, Philip's granddaughter wrote, "Thinking of Grandpa on what would have been his 100th birthday."

Eugenie and Philip were evidently very close as following his sad passing, she also took to social media to share a letter she'd written to him with her 1.5 million followers. She began by saying how comforting it has been to hear memories of the Duke shared by members of the public and those who have benefitted from partaking in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

"Dearest Grandpa,⁣ We all miss you," said the Princess. "⁣You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days. ⁣People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their DofE award meant to them."

She then continued on to say, "I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy. ⁣I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day.⁣ I remember your hands and your laugh and your favourite beer."

Princess Eugenie ended the moving words by thanking Prince Philip for his dedication to the Queen, throughout their 73 years of marriage. "I will remember you in your children, your grandchildren and great grandchildren. ⁣Thank you for your dedication and love for us all and especially Granny, who we will look after for you."

The official Instagram account for The Queen has also posted about Philip on his birth date, sharing an image of Her Majesty from last week as she received a gift from the RHS of a Duke of Edinburgh rose. The post also includes a picture of Elizabeth and Philip together, in which she is holding a basket of roses.
