After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of their baby daughter, born on Friday 4 June and named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, they have been overwhelmed with well wishes. The official announcement was made via a press statement from a spokesperson, and via a message on the couple's Archewell website, explaining that their second child has been named after her late grandmother, Princess Diana, and her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

Among the congratulations have been public messages from various members of the Royal Family, including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Charles and the Queen herself. These reactions came in the shape of Instagram posts with captions reading in a typical, formal royal fashion. But Prince Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie - who he's known to be particularly close with - opted for something a little more personal.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Eugenie posted the gorgeous black-and-white pregnancy announcement photograph taken by Misan Harriman and shared by the Sussexes for the first time back in February when they first shared news of their pregnancy. Alongside the picture, Eugenie wrote: "❤️❤️❤️ Congratulations dear cousins.. we couldn't be happier for you all. ❤️❤️❤️"

Princess Eugenie gave birth to her own baby back in February, when she and husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their son August. Although Harry and Meghan live overseas while Eugenie and Jack are staying in their Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry may have managed to meet his cousin's newborn back in April when he was home for Prince Philip's funeral.

The two couples are known to have a particularly strong bond, with a biography released last year about Meghan and Harry's relationship revealing that the Sussexes previously went on double dates with Eugenie and Jack. Writing in Finding Freedom, royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Duran said: "Eugenie had always been more than just a cousin to Harry. They were also the closest of friends.

"Out of all the Queen's grandchildren, Harry and Eugenie have one of the most natural connections. Like Harry, Eugenie is loyal, honest, and great fun," the book continued. "Harry and Meghan had already been out on two double dates with [Eugenie and Jack]," it added.

"Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life. Not only did he trust her implicitly, but friends say that she gives great advice and has always been 'beyond wise' for her years," read the biography, which wasn't officially authorised by Meghan and Harry but was researched with the help of "extensive access to those closest to the couple."

Eugenie's first response to Meghan Markle was entirely positive, it's claimed, which is perhaps why their bond remains so strong. "She was nothing but encouraging about his new relationship. In fact, Eugenie, who'd long wanted to see her cousin settle down and be happy, told friends she loved Meghan and that she was 'just the tonic' for him."

Prince William and Kate Middleton's congratulatory post on the birth of baby Lili was also very sweet. The Duke and Duchess shared another photo from Harry and Meghan's pregnancy shoot, alongside a caption that read: "We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie."

Hopefully with COVID precautions gradually easing, and with some recently improved family relations, it won't be long until the wider royal family can meet little Lili. Congratulations once again to Harry and Meghan!
