Princess Eugenie welcomes baby boy

Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, have welcomed their first child, a baby boy.

The couple confirmed the happy news on Instagram, with Eugenie sharing a sweet black and white photo, in which she can be seen holding her newborn son's hand.

The royal simply captioned the image with three blue hearts.

The post was followed by an official statement from Buckingham Palace, confirming that the baby was delivered at The Portland Hospital at 08:55am this morning, weighing 8lbs 10z. They have not yet announced the name of the new arrival, who is the Queen's ninth great-grandchild.

“The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the palace said.

"This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

“The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the palace said.

Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank were married in October 2018 at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. They confirmed that they were expecting their first child in September 2020. For a six-week period during the pregnancy, the couple moved into Meghan and Harry's former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage, before moving into Eugenie's family home for lockdown ahead of the birth.
