Princess Eugenie's engagement ring looks very familiar

Official photographs of a beaming Princess Eugenie and her equally ecstatic fiancé Jack Brooksbank have been released by Buckingham Palace following the couple's exciting announcement that they are engaged.

In the series of photos – taken by Jonathan Brady in the Picture Gallery in Buckingham Palace – the 27-year-old royal wears a pretty Erdem floral dress teamed with a pair of Jimmy Choos, and of course debuts her eye-catching engagement ring, said to contain a padparadscha sapphire surrounded by diamonds.

And if you thought the dazzling ring looks familiar, it's because it resembles the ruby and diamond engagement ring given to Eugenie's mother the Duchess of York by Prince Andrew upon their engagement in 1986.

The Burmese ruby chosen by Andrew reportedly cost £25,000, and is now reported to be worth £71,350, according to The Express.

Eugenie and mother Sarah Ferguson are extremely close, with Sarah sharing three black and white photos of her daughter and Jack together on Twitter to celebrate their forthcoming nuptials.

The official portraits of Eugenie and Brooksbank – who have been in a relationship for six years –were released shortly after Prince Andrew and Sarah confirmed the happy news via a statement from Buckingham Palace.

'The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Eugenie to Mr Jack Brooksbank,' a statement from the palace read.

'Her Royal Highness and Mr Jack Brooksbank became engaged in Nicaragua earlier this month. The wedding will take place in the autumn of 2018 at St George's Chapel in Windsor, with further details to be announced in due course.'

Brooksbank's delighted parents added the statement: 'We could not be more delighted with the news of the engagement. We are completely over the moon and are very excited for them both.

'The couple, who were reportedly introduced by friends during a skiing holiday in Verbier, Switzerland in 2010, will marry at St George's Chapel in Windsor this autumn. Eugenie's cousin Prince Harry will be marrying Meghan Markle at the same chapel in May.

Princess Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew and Fergie.

Brooksbank was formerly the manager of London nightclub Mahiki, but is currently the UK brand ambassador of Casamigos, the tequila brand owned by George Clooney, Cindy Crawford's husband Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman.

The palace said more details on their impending wedding will be announced in due course.
