Being a part of the royal family might sound like the life you were destined to live, but shacking up with Harry, Wills, or Charles for that matter, comes with its fair share of sacrifices.

There's a whole host of super strict rules the royals have to follow, and while you might be ok with never playing Monopoly again (yes, seriously), you might not be ok giving up a part of your beauty routine.

You may have noticed that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, are never pictured wearing any kind of bright nail polish. Either their nails are bare, or have a slick of strictly natural varnish.

That's because coloured nail polish and fake nails, aren't part of royal etiquette, and royals are expected to stick to clean, natural nails at all times. Which is probably why the Queen has been wearing the exact same shade of nude polish since 1989 (Essie Ballet Slippers FYI).

One person who wasn't afraid to break the rules was Princess Diana. In fact she openly flouted them with her bright red nail polish, which definitely isn't royal approved.

Nail polish wasn't the only way Diana injected colour into her makeup routine, she was known her for her iconic blue eyeliner, which she only stopped wearing after her makeup artist, Mary Greenwell, told her to.
