Bad news for those who were hoping to purchase a pair of the adorable red shoes Princess Charlotte wore on the first day of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's current royal tour.

An observant fan on Twitter has suggested that the bright-red, leather, buckled shoes are hand-me-downs from Charlotte's uncle Prince Harry, and were originally purchased from Start Rites in the mid 1980s.

Harry was pictured wearing an identical pair on numerous occasions in 1986 when he was two, which featured the same round gold buckle and bar strap as the ones worn by Charlotte. The young princess' shoes also look slightly worn, faded and a little bit scuffed compared to Harry's shinier pair.

The royal family are well known for being thrifty and reusing clothes, with Prince George recently wearing Prince William's white shirt and blue shorts from 1984 at Trooping the Colour.

George has often worn replica outfits of Prince William's, including the red shorts and white embroidered shirt he wore to Charlotte's christening. William wore a similar ensemble to meet Prince Harry just after he was born.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have joined their parents on their five-day official state visit to Poland and Germany.

A statement from the palace announced that the Cambridges are 'very much looking forward' to their visit and that the public can expect to see the royal children 'on at least a couple of occasions over the course of the week.

It is believed that the trip is part of the royal couple's unofficial duties as Brexit ambassadors, as they attempt to strengthen the UK's relations with Europe as it prepares to leave the EU.
