The first photos of Princess Beatrice's wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have been released by Buckingham Palace.

Beatrice married the property developer on Friday in a secret, private ceremony at Windsor Castle. She had been due to marry in May but was forced to postpone her wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In the first of two official photos released late last night, Beatrice and Edoardo are flanked by their guests of honour – the Queen and Prince Philip – outside The Royal Chapel at All Saints in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Beatrice was insistent that her grandmother attended the wedding before she heads off to Balmoral at the end of the month, which is thought to be why the wedding was held this weekend.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been shielding at Windsor since early March. This was the first time they have attended a family gathering since the UK went into lockdown.

In a further sweet nod to her grandmother, Beatrice wore a vintage Norman Hartwell gown borrowed from the Queen – and fitted by the monarch's longstanding dressmaker Angela Kelly – and the Queen Mary diamond tiara worn by Her Majesty on her wedding day in 1947.

The Queen wore the ivory taffeta dress to the premiere of the Lawrence of Arabia in 1962.

The other official wedding photo shows Beatrice and Edoardo peaking out of a wall of flowers outside the chapel. You can see it here.

Her father, Prince Andrew, was not included in the official wedding photos released by the palace, although he did walk Beatrice down the aisle.

According to The Sunday Times, the couple chose the two photos shared by the Palace last night, but it is also understood that Andrew wanted to keep a low profile on Friday to avoid overshadowing his daughter's big day.

The Duke of York has retired from public life over his friendship with the late convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. Andrew denies any wrongdoing.
