Having the Queen as your mum probably isn't the easiest thing in the world. And, despite being 69 years of age, it seems Princess Anne is still not exempt from a good telling off courtesy of her mother.

In video footage that's emerged from last night's reception at Buckingham Palace to mark 70 years of the NATO alliance, the Queen's only daughter is seen being given a stern eye by her mum for failing to greet Donald Trump. And it's quite hilarious.

In the clip, Queen Elizabeth can be seen standing alongside Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall as they shake hands with the US President and the First Lady, Melania Trump. Meanwhile, Princess Anne remains at the back of the room, lurking by the door - hesitant, it might be assumed, to greet Donald Trump. Upon noticing this, the Queen glances over and tries to catch Anne's gaze. When Her Majesty finally makes eye contact, she tries to subtly gesture Anne over - to which she's flat-out rejected.

In a reaction that'll reassure you even the royal family get tetchy with one another every now and then, the Princess Royal responds to her mum's scalding with a sassy shrug of the shoulders. Channelling this emoji big time - 🤷♀️ - Princess Anne is all like, I don't care, I'm not coming over there. You stand by your principles, girl.

Prince Charles, noticing the dynamic between his mum and sister, then casually tries to cover up the tense interaction by reaching out to shake Melania Trump's hand. Aaaaand it's all smooth again.

What a joy that is to watch.

Kate Middleton was the only member of the 'Fab Four' in attendance, as Prince William is currently on an overseas tour to Kuwait and Oman, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken a leave of absence of royal duties until the new year.

The Sussexes recently announced they won't be spending Christmas with the rest of the royal family this year. An official statement from the Palace confirmed that "having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their royal highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the duchess' mother Doria Ragland."

It's not known exactly where they will spend the festive season, but the break will hopefully serve as some much-needed down-time for the couple, who have had a very difficult year.
