It's safe to say that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis don't exactly have a typical upbringing. But that's something that dad Prince William is keen to change, as he's brought in a few rules at home to ensure the children's lives are as 'normal' as possible.

According to royal expert Valentine Low’s new book, Courtiers: the Hidden Power Behind the Crown, Prince William told royal staffers working at his home not to wear suits. "He wants it to be casual," Low reports that one member of the household said. "The kids run around the office, and he does not want it to be stuffy. If we have important meetings, or are going to Buckingham Palace, then of course we [wear suits]."

The staffer went on to reveal that the move started with 'casual Fridays', but William – who was appointed the new Prince of Wales earlier this month – extended this across the week, telling his staff that unless they had an important meeting, they should dress casually. "This is where my family lives," he apparently told them.

And that's not the only rule at the Wales household as it was recently shared that William and his wife Kate Middleton have banned the children from raising their voices at one another. "Shouting is absolutely 'off limits' for the children and any hint of shouting at each other is dealt with by removal", a source close to the family revealed to The Sun.

"The naughty child is taken away from the scene of the row or disruption and talked to calmly by either Kate or William," the insider added.

But, there's no 'naughty step' at the Wales home, instead the children are taken to the "chat sofa", according to the source. "There’s no 'naughty step' but there is a 'chat sofa'," the insider added. "Things are explained and consequences outlined and they never shout at them."

Despite having very clear parenting rules, the Prince and Princess of Wales have worked hard at not being too strict on their kids – enlisting the help of nanny, Maria Borrallo. "Maria is firm but she never acts unilaterally with the children on discipline", the source went on. "Kate and William, along with Maria, are strict with the children but have this magic ability to appear not to be."

They continued: "It is a military operation but you would never guess it because they work ferociously hard on their children's upbringing and making it seem relaxed and happy for the three of them. They are very good at listening to the children but being firm."
