Princess Charlotte is 'growing up fast' according to her father Prince William, who has shared details from the six-year-old's recent birthday celebrations.

On Tuesday, the Duke of Cambridge headed to the West Midlands to visit organisations that have worked to protect and support communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the trip he revealed that he and Kate Middleton hosted a small garden party to mark their daughter's sixth birthday on Sunday, May 2.

The youngster may have only just turned six but according to her father the sassy schoolgirl now claims she's a 16-years-old when asked how old she is.

In footage shared on the Daily Mail, the Duke of Cambridge can be heard telling one organisation worker that Charlotte had a 'lovely birthday'.

'Unfortunately, for her, obviously last year there was no birthday party because of lockdown but this year [we had] one other family, so that was it. So it wasn't a party as such but we made it as fun for her as possible,' the royal is heard explaining.

Prince William also joked about his daughter: 'If you ask her, she says she's 16... Charlotte says, "I'm six now, I'll do what I want". They grow up very fast.'

Princess Charlotte, the second of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's three children, turned six just days after the couple marked their 10th wedding anniversary.

To mark her special day, the @royalfamily Instagram account shared a snap of the Princess, which was taken by her mother.

'Wishing Princess Charlotte a very happy sixth birthday today,' its caption reads.
