Prince William turned 40 today, and to mark this milestone, he penned a letter for The Big Issue, which compelled him to recall the first time he visited a homeless shelter with his mother Princess Diana.

The Duke of Cambridge - who is passionate about supporting the homeless in Britain, since his late mother would take him and younger brother Prince Harry to visit shelters - has also been pictured holding a stack of the publication's magazines, reportedly turning seller for the day.

The future king's letter read: 'I was 11 when I first visited a homeless shelter with my mother, who in her own inimitable style was determined to shine a light on an overlooked, misunderstood problem.'

He continued: 'I wanted to experience the other side and see what it was like to be a Big Issue vendor. My time was truly eye-opening.

'I have always believed in using my platform to help tell those stories and to bring attention and action to those who are struggling.

'I plan to do that now I'm turning 40, even more than I have in the past. So, for my part, I commit to continue doing what I can to shine a spotlight on this solvable issue not just today, but in the months and years to come.

'And in the years ahead, I hope to bring George, Charlotte and Louis to see the fantastic organisations doing inspiring work to support those most in need – just as my mother did for me.'

Ahead of his 40th birthday, it was revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton will likely be moving to Berkshire this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, they will reside in a four-bedroom home on the Windsor estate.

A source told The Sun: 'Kate and William were very keen for a modest home to start their new lives in Windsor.

'Adelaide Cottage fits the bill because it is a four-bedroom home and they do not need any more as they have no live-in staff. They had no other demands than a pleasant family home close to schools and the Queen.

'They were adamant they didn't want anything too showy or anything that needed renovating or extra security so as not to be a burden on the taxpayer.'

The outlet reported that their new home doesn't need costly refurbishments or extra security arrangements.
